From World Series pitcher to picture books!
In the 1960s, Wally Bunker was considered a boy wonder, entering the Major League as a mere teenager. He was named Rookie of the Year and pitched in the World Series for the winning Baltimore Orioles.
Today, he’s using that same talented hand to paint, make pottery, play piano, and write and illustrate picture books about a fanciful bird named Wal-de-Mar.
Wally and his wife Kathy Bunker, who have been artists in residence at Palm Key Nature Getaway in South Carolina, team up on everything they create. Their first children's book, The Birth of Baseball: A Somewhat True Story of How Wal-de-Mar Wiggins Invented the Grand Ole Game, will be released by Moonbeam Children's Book Award-winning Joggling Board Press in early 2012.
